Joseph Duhimbaze has been arrested by Kisoro police on allegations of struggling his one year old son, Ostin Irunva, to death for over crying.
Assistant Superintendent of Police – ASP Elly Matte, the Kigezi regional police spokesperson, said Duhimbaze 27, is facing charges of murder by strangulation.
Mate said the suspect was reported by his wife, Speciozs Irakunda aged 25. The couple has been living at Taaba village, Mbuga parish, Nyakinama sub county, in Kisoro district.
“It’s alleged that yesterday 15/2/2023 at around 9:30pm, the suspect reached home and went direct to the bedroom where the child was lying, shortly she heard it crying further,” Mate said.
Irakunda rushed to enter the bedroom and found when the husband was strangling the child. She tried to intervene but the man was stronger than herself.
“She went to call neighbors who responded immediately, unfortunately found when he was already dead,” Mate said.
Locals notified police that swiftly visited and examined the scene, body was taken to Kisoro hospital for postmortem and the suspect arrested. Police are yet to establish the motive of the father’s gruesome act.
