Security has warned the general public that criminality in South Karamoja still persists despite several engagement security meetings between security forces and community leaders to have cropping incidents minimized if not stopped.
Mike Longole, Mt Moroto police spokesperson, said there are number of community engagements held in Nabilatuk, Nakapiripirit and Amudat on different occasions.
Longole said despite the above, they have continued registering cases of murders, cattle rustling and attacks on neighbouring districts.
Security highlighted the recent attack in Kween where a kraal was set to blaze, Killing of LC1 in Moruita, Murder of LC3 councillor Moruita Parish to mention but a few.
Longole said last night security registered two separate incidents that occurred at different hours in the night.
Longole said in Kakomongole village, Kakomongole subcounty, Nakapiripirit District at around 22:30 hours on Tuesday where over 100 heads of cattle were raided in the process one herds man, Tiyan Peter, resident of Nasulut village, Kosike Subcounty, Nabilatuk District was shot dead by the raiders.
Tiyan’s body was taken to Nabilatuk Health centre IV for Postmortem, other investigations are on going.
However, Longole said joint security forces are tracking the animals, the community will be informed of any recovery.
Longole highlight another incidents that occurred in Moruangaberu village, Lotaruk Parish, Lolachat Subcounty Nabilatuk at around 2130 on 14/2/2023, about 500 cows were raided by unknown Karimajong cattle rustlers, where joint security forces swung in action and recovered 392 heads of cattle.
“Security forces are still tracking others. We urge the community to remain calm and give ample time to security forces to do their work,” Longole said.
