At least people were reduced to graves as a result of road crashes according to traffic police records.
Assistant Superintendent of Police – ASP Faridah Nampiima, the traffic police spokesperson, said the crash involved 267 victims thus accounting for 55 deaths from December 23rd and December 26.
The deaths on the road include one driver, 15 motorcyclists, 21 pedestrians, five taxi passengers, eight motorcycle passengers and one driver.
Away from the deaths, 212 people were left nursing serious injuries. These include 15 drivers, 68 motorcyclists, 53 passengers on motorcycles, four passengers in taxis and 24 pedestrians.
When this year’s statistics are compared to 2021 in the same period, it shows there was a huge reduction. For instance, 66 people died in Christmas season but this year they were 55. People who were seriously injured slightly increased from 206 last year to 212 this year.
