2 Guns Recovered in Luweero, One Suspect Arrested

The Luweero district Flying Squad Unit yesterday arrested a suspected criminal and recovered two SMG rifles. This was after information was received that a certain man was having illegal guns in one of the villages near Lukomera, Katikamu North, in Luweero district.

ASP Luke Patrick the Savannah region acting police spokesperson, said the team of flying squad swiftly conducted an operation and managed to arrest a one Bashir Lubega who was interrogated in the field and revealed how he was having a gun

Lubega led police to the place where he had hidden it and was recovered wrapped in a sack tied together with a sharp machete. “He further led the team to the second point where he was hiding the second gun in the bush and it was also recovered wrapped in a yellow T-shirt with a magazine of four bullets,” ASP Luke said.

Senior Commissioner of Police, Fred Enanga, said the guns recovered from Lubega were all stolen from Luweero security guards. The first gun was stolen on October 16 this year from a Pyramid security guard at Naluvule zone, Lukomera, Katikamu North, Luweero district.

Another gun is the one that was robbed from Odong Leone an SGA security guard who he shot dead about two weeks ago. “The suspect Lubega Bashir further explained how he purported to be mad and killed the Odong Leone after resisting to peacefully handover a gun to him. The suspect also revealed how he actively initiated an armed robbery at Julaw energy petrol station in Lukomera and stole 82,000 shillings with his new recruit a one Joshua still at large,” Enanga said.

Lubega also revealed other minor missions which he executed and he said the motive of robbing guns was to carryout armed robbery missions. Security agencies are still carrying more investigations into Lubega’s acts.
