The Uganda People’s Defence Forces -UPDF have killed 50 rebels belonging to the Allied Democratic Forces -ADF in a space of three days days. UPDF Spokesperson, Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye, has revealed that 30 rebels were killed in a fierce fire exchange between the soldiers and militants at Tokomeka forest, in the general areas of Irumu in the Democratic Republic of Congo -DRC.
UPDF launched an attack dubbed Shujaa targeting ADF camps in the DRC on November 30, 2021. This was after ADF-linked suicide bombers detonated several Improvised Explosive Devices -IEDs in Uganda’s capital Kampala. These bombs left nine people dead including four suspected suicide bombers.

Brig Kulayigye said 20 more rebels were killed on Tuesday in the Ntoroko district in the western part of Uganda after they crossed into the country. The Army explains that in the two gunfire incidents, 34 rebels have been captured.
Other than the killed and captured ADF militants, UPDF has revealed a number of weapons have been recovered. These include 24 Sub-Machine Guns, a PK Machine gun, and material used to make IEDs.
Brig Kulayigye said the Ugandans forces will remain in the DRC until all ADF rebels have been neutralized, captured, or surrendered. ADF started its military assault on Uganda in the 1990s under the command of Jamil Mukulu who was arrested in Tanzania in 2015. He has since been charged in Ugandans courts of law and his trial is still proceeding.
