Three of the five armed robbers that raided Namwendwa town council, in Kamuli district, on Wednesday morning, were reduced to corpses by a veteran Uganda People’s Defence Forces- UPDF soldier Isa Matovu.

Assistant Superintendent of Police- ASP Micheal Kasadha, the Busoga North regional police spokesperson, said the unidentified armed robbers were killed as they attempted to shoot Matovu and his co-guard Muhammed Mudhungu when they questioned them about two motorcycles that had been reported stolen.

Matovu and Mudhungu are charged with the duty of boosting security in Namwendwa town council, in Kamuli district and they eliminated the trio at Green Zone, Namwendwa Ward. It all started when information was received by the duo that two motorcycles UFQ 086C and UEZ 526C had been stolen from Bodaboda riders but the robbers were heading to Namwendwa town council.

Luckily enough, one of the motorcycles had a tracker which Matovu and Mudhungu followed until they found five suspected robbers with motorcycles. The four men were being housed by a female who has since been identified by Sofia Namwase based on a National Identity Card that was picked from the scene.

“Upon being interrogated, one of them discharged two bullets in air, before attempting to aim at the guards. This prompted Matovu to grab the gun and a scuffle ensued that saw three suspected robbers put out of action. During the scuffle, two of the suspects, including the woman fled the scene,” Kasadha said.

Police commanders in Kamuli district visited the scene and recovered items like two motorcycles, an SMG rifle, cartridges, a mixer, laptop, extension cable, copper wires, a set of army uniform and shoes have been recovered. Police also collected a hand saw, knives, screw drivers, and pliers.
