There was a shocking incident this evening in Magere cell, in Kasangati when unknown thugs raided a GKO security guard walking alone, cut him with a panga, and then varnished with his gun.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, said the yet-to-be-identified guard was attacked at around 7:30 pm but the police were alerted in time and rushed him to the hospital for treatment.

“Police at Kasangati are investigating the theft of a firearm from a security guard belonging to GKO security company. The guard was attacked while heading to his beat and cut by unidentified assailants. Our team responded and took him to Mulago hospital for treatment while the search for the gun has commenced,” Owoyesigyire said.

The incident comes four days after unknown assailants shot and killed Uganda People’s Defence Forces -UPDF soldier Sgt Simon Peter Eyagu, while guarding an Ambarcoat about a kilometer to reach Gadaffi barracks in Jinja.

Sgt Eyagu was killed when his colleague Cpl Norico Kibirige, had gone to buy a drink at around 8:50 pm. So far, three suspects including Cpl Kibirige have been arrested as a hunt for attacks and recovery of guns proceeds.

The Gadaffi incident came barely three weeks after unknown assailants about seven in number raided Busiika Police station and killed two police officers in addition to taking the guns.

The Busiika attack was the genesis of merging Police Posts as police top leadership headed by the Inspector General of Police -IGP Martin Ochola, said the attackers were taking advantage of insufficient numbers at such workstations.
