Barnard Wandera a lecturer at Uganda’s most prestigious and oldest University- Makerere, has been suspended following a video clip in which he seen slapping a female student during a lecture.
A video that emerged on Friday evening and has since gone viral, shows Wandera walking from in front up where a female student was and giving her a sea of slaps accompanied by a zillion of insults.
But in response to probably one of the most shameful acts to happen at such an iconic education institution, Vice Chancellor, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, has sent his namesake home and instituted a committee to probe the incident.
In the interdiction letter, Nawangwe has reduced Wandera’s salary to a half and banned him from accessing any university property including his own office.
Wandera, according to Nawangwe, will be interrogated by the set up committee in due course in order to establish what exactly triggered his actions.
The female victim, according to Nawangwe, has already delivered a written and verbal complaint. Nawangwe said Wandera’s actions are not only an embarrassment to the University but also flouts the institution’s policy of ensuring learners and staff are protected.
