Two people including a woman suspected to have been the second lover of mysteriously dead Namugongo businessman, Justus Rugyengye, have been arrested to aid police in investigations.
Rugyengye, who runs various merchandise shops and rentals in Mbalwa, died yesterday under circumstances his wife, Charlotte Rugyengye, believes were mysterious and decided to report a case at Bweyogerere police station which was recorded on reference 005/2022.
Charlotte in her statement explains that she left their matrimonial home in Mbalwa Namugongo as she headed for work to Kajjansi where she serves as a resident state attorney.
“I left my husband home without any sickness. At around 3 pm, I called my husband but he did not pick up the call. Later at 4 pm, I received a call from one of my husband’s relatives asking me where I was and the time I was going to get back home. This person then told me that my husband had died and his body was at Gwatiro hospital,” Charlotte informed the police.
Gwatiro hospital is located in Bweyogerere division, in Kira Municipality, Wakiso district. The deceased’s relative told Charlette that he had learnt about Rugyengye’s death through a medic at the same health amenity.
When Charlotte arrived at Gwatiro hospital, she was informed that her husband was taken there by a lady and a man but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. The lady who took Rugyengye to Gwatiro hospital was identified as, Nice Twikirize Mbabazi, also a resident of Mbalwa, Namugongo division.
Police using Closed Circuit Television -CCTV cameras have since established that the deceased was driven to Gwatiro hospital in a vehicle with a number plate UBH 765S and its driver has since been identified as Eria Serunkuma.
Mbabazi and Serunkuma have since been arrested. Police have so far established that Mbabazi and the deceased Rugyengye have been lovers and their relationship yielded a baby who is now nine months old.
In her statement to the police, Mbabazi said Rugyengye had gone to have lunch at her second home as he often did. She added that she went to the Kitchen to prepare lunch while Rugyengye played with their baby. But when she returned from the Kitchen, she noticed that the baby was un attended to and Rugyengye had collapsed.
“I immediately a special hire driver to help me deliver him to the nearest hospital but the vehicle arrived after 30 mins. I was helped by the maid to carry him to the hospital. Unfortunately, the doctors said he was already dead,” Mbabazi said.
Police have since established that Mbabazi pleaded with the doctors to first put him on oxygen but they couldn’t help at all. The home in which Rugyengye allegedly collapsed and Gwatiro hospital where his body was taken were visited by scene of crime officers headed by Kira Division Police Commander -DPC Abbas Senyonjo. Other senior officers who visited the scenes include Bweyogerere OC ASP Kwarisima and detective ASP OC CID Bweyogerere. Police have recorded statements from witnesses.
