The traffic police in Kampala has revealed that 511 cars that had illegally installed roof flights and sirens were impounded last week.
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Faridah Nampiima, the traffic police spokesperson, said police will continue its operations against drivers who have continuously given themselves the right of way through installing roof lights and sirens.
Police embarked on impounding vehicles with illegal sirens and roof lights last week following a public outcry on impunity exhibited by drivers owning such implements that are a preserve for people who have right of way like the president, and emergency vehicles.
Nampiima has also warned funeral vehicles that have roof lights and sirens to remove them before they’re impounded.
Nampiima said there is no emergency in transporting a dead body. It should be noted that almost every funeral company in this country has installed sirens and roof lights in its cars which they used to clear traffic for themselves.
