Fear has engulfed residents of Kiryowa village along Kampala-Gulu road after unknown gunmen shot and killed Bukwo district Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) in wee hours of Friday night.

Charles Ogwang, who was driving a government Pick Up UG0865Z, was waylaid at around midnight by assailants suspected to have been moving on a motorcycle. The assassins pumped several bullets into Ogwang’s vehicle but he managed to move in an attempt to save his life.

However, he was overpowered by the volley of ammunitions and he fell down. The killers fired bullets in the vehicle’s fuel tank thus making it catch ablaze. After the killers had fled the scene, locals alerted police and Army that rushed Ogwang to Bombo military barracks. Nevertheless, Ogwang was pronounced dead in less than three hours later.

Assistant Superintendent of Police -ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, said Kasangati police was investigating the incident. Security agencies are currently hunting for Ogwang’s killers.

“The incident was reported to Police by locals after they heard gunshots at Kiryowa, Mabanda, Bombo Road near Banu Petrol station. The officers from Both Matugga and Kasangati police stations rushed to the scene only to find the car on fire,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.

ASP Owoyesigyire said the Police fire prevention and rescue services responded in an attempt to extinguish the burning vehicle but it was perhaps late. There have been incidents of night armed robbers donned in Army uniforms along -Kampala-Gulu highway. It is not yet clear whether even Ogwang was a victim robbery or he was a target of hired assassins.
