The Uganda National Examination Board –UNEB has withheld results of more than 2000 candidates on allegations of engaging in examination malpractice. The executive secretary for UNEB Dan Odongo said all children whose results have been withheld will be accorded a fair hearing.
Odongo cited Rwenzori subregion districts as top on list of examination malpractice. He mentioned districts such as Bundibugyo and Kasese as some of those that have scooped the award of cheating examinations.
In addition, five Luzira prison inmates have scored a first grade in last year’s PLE. The centre had 58 candidates but only 53 sat for the exams. Other 23 students scored grade two whereas 11 passed in grade III and 11 others in grade IV.
As usual, male candidates beat their female counterparts in overall performance. Candidates in urban areas according to Odongo also scored highly compared to their counterparts in rural areas. This has been attributed to parental involvement in learners’ education by urban parents which is not the case in rural places.
