Police in Rukungiri district is puzzled with how a 23-year-old man was cut to death like a goat. Edson Amanya was found with slit throat in his bedroom at Kagarigari cell, Nyakitabire parish, Ruhinda subcountry.
Amanya, according to Kigezi regional police spokesperson, Elly Mate, was attacked by unknown group of thugs that held him firmly in his bed. The attackers then placed a knife on his neck and they cut it several times.
The deceased was a son to Twinamasiko James and Medius Twinamasiko. The parents left him home as they went to harvest ground nuts in the same area but were shocked to find their son’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood.
Detective Assistant Superintendent of Police –ASP Nasuuna Harriet accompanied by other Scene of Crime Offices commonly known as SOCOs visited the murder scene. However, police did not recover the weapon used to kill Amanya. His body was taken to Rwakabengo healthy center III pending postmortem that would be a basis for murder inquiries.
“Amanya Edson was found dead with a deep cut on his throat lying on his bed by unknown assailants. And cash worth 200,000sh was robbed from the deceased, and 930,000sh robbed from the parents’ bedroom. The cases of murder and aggravated robbery were reported to Ruhinda police station by the father of the deceased,” Mate said.
Similarly, police at Entebbe are investigating the murder of Eriya Were Kato, six years of age. The youngster went missing on July 3, 2021. Earlier on, a case of disappearance had been opened up at Kasenyi Police Station.
Before Kato’s body was recovered, his father received a phone call from an unknown person asking for a ransom of Shs4 million. Deputy Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, said Kato’s father ably recognised the voice of the caller as Moses Kaye.
“He informed the police and the suspect was arrested. Upon interrogation, the suspect Yesterday led the police to a nearby thicket, around 200m from the home. The body was found in a decomposing state,” Owoyesigyire said.
The toddlers body was taken to Kampala Capital City Authority mortuary at Mulago for a postmortem. Police arrested three other suspects to help with the investigation. The trio is being held on murder charges and will hopefully be arraigned in courts next week.
In another development, Jinja Road are investigating a murder by shooting of Lokong Zakaria, a security guard attached to SWAT Security Group limited. Lokong was allegedly shot at around 6:20pm at KCB Bank Industrial Area on 6th Street by a college.
Lokong was guarding at KBC Bank with Ocan Jimmy also a security guard of SWAT. Ocan had fled the scene but he was intercepted by the OC Post Industrial Area. Lokong is detained at Jinja Road Police Station on allegations of murder as detectives add pieces together to establish circumstances that led to the shooting. Police recovered two guns and six cartridges.
