Uganda Armed Forces Vow to Secure Museveni’s Swearing in at All Costs

Anyone who will attempt to disrupt the swearing of President Yoweri Museveni will taste the security wrath, according to Commissioner of Police Fred Enanga.

Museveni, who has been ruling Uganda since 1986 will be taking his sixtieth presidential oath on May 12, 2021 at Uganda’s independence grounds in Kololo, which is located in the Central Division of Kampala City.

Enanga has revealed that a Joint Task Force has been set up with the mandate of ensuring the pre-swearing, swearing-in and post events happen in a very safe and secure manner.  Security agencies said they were confident of holding a successful event since it was planned for in the security master plan for policing the 2021 general elections.

Museveni was controversially declared winner of January 14 presidential elections with 58 percent. Throughout the campaign period, Museveni using military and police unleashed all sorts of brutality against his rivals particularly Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine. The musician turned politicians was often received with teargas and bullets.

Security says they are more than prepared to quash alleged plans by Opposition to antagonize Museveni’s swearing in. Enanga said they have received information that some elements want to block roads and throw petrol bombs on the fateful day.

“At this stage, we want to inform the public that there are no specific threats directed towards the swearing in ceremony, although, we anticipate disruptive activities, such as the use of petrol bombs, acts of sabotage, blocking roads, burning tyres and other disruptive activities,” Enanga said.

Security added: However, our Joint Intelligence Components have picked this piece of information, and continue to gather information surrounding the would be perpetrators.  We also are monitoring some of the disgruntled supporters who continue with their usual rhetoric of threats to violence.  But we have since established that most of their threats do not pose any serious risk of violence.”

Museveni’s swearing is expected to attract the attendance of at least five presidents more so from the African continent. Although Museveni plans to swear in, majority of his rivals including the biggest challenger Kyagulanyi dispel his victory.

Kampala City and its neighbouring districts of Wakiso and Mukono have been put in cluster by security forces since they are always the centre of peaceful protests which police and military that have always dispersed with lethal weapons.
