Uganda police force have revealed that nearly 90 have been killed in the last seven days by security agencies, thugs while the rest met death in domestic and property fights.
Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, said 45 people were killed when military and police battled sporadic riots that emanated from the arrest of presidential candidate, Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine.
Former Kampala City police commander, Frank Mwesigwa, led a team of police officers that apprehended Kyagulanyi at his campaign venue in the Eastern Uganda district of Luuka. Police accused Kyagulanyi of violating Covid19 operating procedures that prohibit massive gatherings.
Soldiers, police and militia in civilian wears wreaked havoc on Kampala streets and other places neighbouring Uganda’s capital where scores were left dead and others are still fighting for their life in hospitals.
Security agencies shot directly at protesters, bystanders, onlookers and in buildings where traders were conducting their trade. Enanga said 39 out of 45 fatalities were males while the rest were females.
Enanga added that 40 other people died in the 56 criminal incidents that were recorded across the country. In these other criminal incidents, victims that include children, women and men were murdered by thugs that targeted their property or it was related to domestic avenges and disputes.
In regard to the riots, Enanga said 836 people have been arrested but only 362 had appeared in courts of law by Monday afternoon. The other suspects will appear in courts by close of this week according to Enanga.
