City Lawyer Lubega Returns to Challenge Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana

City lawyer Achilles Lubega, has returned to challenge Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana, in the forthcoming 2021 general elections.

Lubega who is the National Resistance Movement –NRM flagbearer was successfully nominated on Friday by Fredrick Muwaya Tibyakuno, the Kampala Electoral Commission Chairman, at Ntinda offices.

Ssewanyana beat Lubega in 2016 when he garnered 37,066 votes translating into a 52.6 percent while Lubega garnered 12,746 votes translating into 18.1 percent. EC statistics indicate that Makindye West had 157,302 registered voters in 2016.

Lubega arrived for nomination on a yellow bicycle purposely to assimilate himself with the electorates and ordinary citizens will be representing in Parliament if at all he wins.

“I’ve been with the people in all endeavors and they recognize my bicycle. We jog together and do community work together. Although I have a car but a bicycle puts me near the people I’m going to serve,” Lubega said.

Others who were nominated on the last day include former Makindye East MP Mike Mabikke who will be tussling incumbent Ibrahim Kasozi. By close of nomination exercise, 82 people had been declared candidates for 10 elective positions in Kampala.
