
Security agencies have arrested Herbert Lumu Musasizi, accused of killing an 18 year old students who was repirtedly eloping with his his daughter. On the evening of February 14, 2026, Valentine’s Day, Mabanda Cell in Gombe Division was settling into its usual calm when tragedy struck and left the community in shock.
Bukenya, an 18-year-old learner at Hillside SS Matugga, had set out from his home in Kirinyabigo, Kawanda, to visit his girlfriend. Carrying a modest Valentine’s present, he expected nothing more than a brief, affectionate meeting. Instead, the visit would mark the final hours of his life.
According to reports, the girl’s father, Musasizi, 41, arrived home and allegedly discovered the teenager inside his residence with his 14-year-old daughter. What followed was a heated confrontation that rapidly escalated. Witnesses later recounted hearing desperate cries piercing the night as the older man reportedly attacked the student. Despite neighbours knocking and attempting to intervene, access to the house was not gained in time.
When the situation finally came to light, Martin had sustained fatal injuries. His death sent waves of grief through the area, with residents struggling to comprehend how a youthful Valentine’s visit had ended so violently.
In the days that followed, the suspect reportedly fled, prompting a search by security agencies. He was eventually apprehended in Gulu and taken into custody. Authorities say investigations are ongoing as the legal process begins.
