5 Arrested Over Possessing Military Weapons, Uniforms

At least five people have been arrested in Kisoro district on allegations of being in possession of a Uganda People’s Defence Forces-UPDF gun, bullets, firearm, military fatigue, a GPS machine and Binocular.

ASP Elly Mate the Kigezi regional police spokesperson has identified the suspects as Pte Trovice Mbazira attached to Joint Anti -Terrorism Task Force (JATT), Bosco Mugisha 51, John Ntaate 25, Stanley Sekiranda 32, and Elias Muheki 30.

Mate said at around 10:30 pm information was received by Detective Sgt Lawrence Warugaba that there was a vehicle parked along Busamba Road in Kisoro municipality for along time.

Sgt Warugaba together with the team of patrollers proceeded to the scene and found a Toyota Noah with registration number UAQ 236M silver in colour parked along Busamba Road with six occupants.

Other suspects including Muheki took off to unknown destination along other two members. Police now have Ntaate, Mugisha, Sekiranda and Mbazira in cells.

“They were transferred to Kisoro CPS and on search they were found with three magazines loaded with 90 rounds of ammunitions, a pair of Updf uniform, Updf warm suit, GPS machine, Binocular, screw driver among others,” Mate said.

Mbazira later explained that he was the owner of the vehicle he had allegedly given to his friend who is a driver at Cyanika.

Mbazira said he had booked a room at Home Lodging Kivenfere road Kisoro Municipality where an SMG rifle no. UPDF XK 576754 Loaded with 30 rounds was recovered as well.

Mate said inquiries are underway to establish their motive and after which a way forward will be determined.
