Katwe Police Detain Three Suspects Over Illegal Possession of Government Stores

Police in Katwe Division have arrested and detained three individuals following an intelligence-led operation that resulted in the recovery of suspected government stores and other items in Salaama, Makindye Division.

The operation was carried out in the early hours of June 11, 2026, at approximately 2:00 a.m., after patrol officers received reports about two men allegedly attacking residents with pangas. The suspects were said to be hiding in a house located in Zikusooka Zone, Salaama, in Kampala District.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala, officers quickly acted on the information and conducted a raid on the identified premises. During the operation, two men and one woman were arrested. The suspects were identified as Muwanga George Makanga, Ahumuza Mashood, and Ishimwe Kethier.

A search carried out at the residence led to the recovery of several items, including a backpack containing a toy gun, a metallic torch, a screwdriver, a sensor, a knife, and a number of test tubes. Police also discovered 10 rounds of live ammunition.

Authorities believe the items could be linked to criminal activity, although investigations are ongoing to determine their exact purpose and origin. The suspects remain in custody at Katwe Police Station as further inquiries and interrogations continue. Police have also called on the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to help strengthen community safety.
