Police in Wakiso District have recovered an illegal firearm and arrested a suspect following an intelligence-led operation in Kyengera Town Council.

The operation, conducted on May 1, 2026, by officers from Nsangi and Kyengera, led to the arrest of 26-year-old Kimbugwe Vincent, also known as Kasumali. According to police, the arrest was made after a tip-off from members of the public.

A search at the suspect’s residence in Massanda Cell resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle. Authorities say the firearm was found in a rusted condition with its serial number partially obscured, raising concerns about its origin and prior use.

The weapon has since been submitted to the police forensic laboratory for detailed analysis to establish its history and any possible link to criminal activity.

Kimbugwe is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, commended the public and local authorities for their cooperation, noting that community vigilance remains key in combating crime and improving security.
