Mobile Money Agent Murder: Co-worker Implicated

More police investigation into the death of a mobile money agent at Nkrumah Road in Kampala have also pointed to her co-worker. Nakiwolo Sophia, a 28-year-old mobile money operator and bank agent, was stabbed to death on June 28, 2025, around 7:00 pm. Her body was discovered in a pool of blood on the veranda of Freedom House, in front of Shop No. K-618.

Initial reports on social media suggested the murder was linked to thugs who caused chaos in the city center during President Museveni’s nomination day. However, police have clarified that the incidents are unrelated. Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango said further investigation has implicated the deceased’s co-worker, Elizah Nickson, who is currently in police custody.

Elizah told police that the deceased was attacked by unknown individuals while she was balancing the day’s transactions, and in trying to help her, he was stabbed in the leg. However, this account contradicts the statements given by nearby security guards.

According to the security guards’ statements, upon hearing screams from the shop, they rushed to the scene and found Nickson Elizah pushing the deceased outside while she was bleeding profusely. Elizah then sat back down in the shop.

A mob quickly pulled Nickson Elizah out of the shop and began attacking him with stones and pavers, but he was rescued by the police.A murder case was reported at Nkrumah Road Police Station, and a search of Shop No. K-618 yielded a knife with fresh bloodstains.

The body was retrieved and taken to City Mortuary for a postmortem examination. According to Onyango, two suspects, Abdu Ssemakula and Nickson Elizah, have been apprehended. Under police guard, Nickson Elizah was rushed to Mulago Hospital for treatment due to severe injuries sustained from a mob attack. Investigations are ongoing. The incident is unrelated to the daytime robberies carried out by a group of youths.
