Rajiv Rupareria, a son to Uganda’s richest man Sudhir Rupareria has died in a traffic accident. The road crash which claimed the life of Rajiv occurred at around 1:54am according to Traffic Police Spokesperson, SP Michael Kananura, at Busabala Flyover traffic lights, located in Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District.

“We regret to report a tragic single fatal crash that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, May 3, 2025, at approximately 01:54 AM at the Busabala Flyover traffic lights, located in Makindye-Ssabagabo, Wakiso District. The crash involved a Nissan GTR motor vehicle registration number UAT 638L, which was traveling from Kajjansi towards Munyonyo,” SP Kananura said.

Police’s preliminary investigations indicate that the driver lost control of the vehicle after colliding with temporary pavements installed at the roundabout section of the flyover. SP Kananura said Rajiv’s vehicle subsequently overturned and caught fire, leading to the instant death of the driver, identified as Mr. Rajiv Ruparelia.

“The exact cause of the crash has not yet been determined; however, investigations are underway, and we will provide updates to the public as more information becomes available. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” SP Kananura said.

Rajiv has been for a longtime seen as the defacto successor of Sudhir Rupareria and had involved him in various management roles of his business empire in Uganda and abroad. In fact, many of the businesses were being run by Rajiv and his death has probably left the family and many Ugandans in shock.
