President Yoweri Museveni has scoffed at Supreme Court justices who on Friday ruled against trying civilians in military tribunals.
Museveni said it was sorry to hear of the wrong decision by the Supreme Court in the matter of the fire-arms armed civilians being tried by the Military Court Martial.
According to Museveni trying civilians in military tribunals is a method which “we the freedom fighters support because it reinforces the Civilian Judicial System to defend the lives of our People against Criminals armed with guns.”
Museveni wondered why would someone who is not a soldier arm his or herself with guns and, moreover, for criminal purposes and illegally, that are a monopoly of the Armed Forces?
“Any the country isn’t ruled by judges but Ugandans,” Museveni said.
Earlier on, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Kainerugaba Muhoozi, who is also Museveni’s son said the military court will continue to try anyone who attempts to kill the president, engage in terrorism.
Gen Muhoozi added that even Dr Kizza Besigye who is being tried in the Court Martial over treachery will not be exonerated.
