Police is Mityana is searching for Peter Bafirawala, who stabbed his friend, Edward Ssekiwunga, to death after he found him making love with his spouse in a coffee plantation in the wee hours of yesterday morning.
Bafirawala invited Ssekiwunga to his home at Busaato-Kyamagemule village, Kalangaalo sub-county, to celebrate Christmas with them but the later first went to watch a local football match. By the time Ssekiwunga arrived at Bafirawala’s home, it was approaching mid night.
Ssekiwunga attempted to wake up Bafirawala but he pretended to be in a deep sleep while his wife who was a wake engaged the visitor. Bafirawala did not show any sign of waking up soon and the two started romancing.
Emma Mukalazi a resident claimed that Ssekiwunga and Bafirawala’s wife decided to move out of the house and make love. They did know that Bafirawala was faking sleeping and kept observing the duo’s acts.
“When they moved out of the house, Bafirawala waited for some time probably waiting to find them making love. He followed their movement and caught them red handed making love in a coffee plantation. He stabbed both them but most of the stabs went to Ssekiwunga,” Mukalazi said.
It is alleged that Bafirawala had been for long been getting rumours that his friend Ssekiwunga was having a sexual affair with his wife. Perhaps, Bafirawala invited Ssekiwunga for Christmas meal to prove or disprove the rumour he had heard for a longtime.
Racheal Kawala, the Wamala regional police spokesperson, has said Ssekiwunga was also known as God and was aged 48. “Preliminary findings indicate the suspect Bafirawala Peter and Ssekiwunga Edward (deceased) were great friends. The deceased first went to Kalangalo to watch a football match and later proceeded to the suspect’s home at around 23:00hrs but the suspect was already sleeping, so he decided to move out with the wife to the suspect,” Kawala said.
Like Mukalazi, Kawala said Bafirawala woke up and realized that his wife was not a round and he became suspicious. “He followed them and found the deceased and his wife allegedly making love in the coffee and plantation. It is alleged the suspect stabbed both of them with a knife inflicting serious injuries. After the incident both the suspect and wife fled the scene,” Kawala added.
Locals said Ssekiwunga’s body was discovered in the morning in a very critical condition in the plantation by a child who later alerted the parents. Ssekiwunga unfortunately succumbed to the injuries while being rushed for treatment.
“The scene of crime has been visited by our task team. The body of the deceased had four stab wounds on the ribs and buttocks. We have recorded relevant statements from witnesses. The body of the deceased was evacuated from the scene and taken to Mityana hospital mortuary for postmortem examination,” Kawala said.
The angry residents have since destroyed Bafirawala’s home and other property. Police have since launched a hunt for Bafirawala to face charges of murder. More than 4,000 Ugandans are killed every year but crimes related to infidelity, property wrangles and domestic violence are top contributors to homicide statistics.
