Court grants 4 Suspects in Katanga Murder Case Bail

The High Court has granted bail to four suspects in the Henry Katanga murder case. These include Martha Nkwanzi, Patricia Kakwanza, George Amanyire, and Charles Otai. As pre-requisite for bail,each was required to deposit UGX 2 million and surrender their passports. Sureties were also bonded at UGX 20 million.

The High Court Judge Isaac Muwata released the suspects on grounds that their sureties are substantial but also with defence that they have spent 60 days on remand without trial among other factors.

Muwata directed: “The accused must report to the court registrar every first Monday of the month.” The sisters are accused of destroying evidence related to the murder of their father Henry Katanga. On the other hand, the DPP sanctioned the charge of Accessory after the fact of murder against Amanyire George and Otai Charles for assisting the suspects escape punishment.

Katanga, a prominent moneylender was found dead in a pool of blood on the morning of November 2, 2023, in his bedroom at his matrimonial home in Mbuya, Kampala. Since then different suspects including Molly Katanga (the widow),Kakwanza Patricia and Nkwanzi Martha Katanga were arrested following investigations. Molly Katanga however remains in jail having not applied for bail as yet .
