It is only four days left to mark a month ever since the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) released Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results for 2023. However, results of Namugongo Martyrs Way located in Nabusugwe, Goma Division, Mukono Municipality, in Mukono District are yet to be released.

UNEB suspects that Namugongo Martyrs Way cheated Social Studies examination although the ingredients of the suspected cheating haven’t been made public. However, in one of the WhatsApp groups, the school administrators said on the very day PLE results were released that results had been withheld.

Be ready to be counted

The document revealing the worrying news to parents was titled, Re: Delay in Release Of 2023 PLE Results Of Our School: “We wish to inform you all that we have not yet received our 2023 PLE results. There are mainly two grounds on which UNEB can delay the release of results. Payments: if there is a pending payment to be made by the school or payment made but not captured by UNEB. Suspicion of malpractice.”

In the message that was released on January 25, 2024, the school administration added that: “When we contacted UNEB about it, we couldn’t reach the officer in charge as he was out of office. We were advised to go back on Monday since tomorrow Friday [Jan 26,2024] is a public holiday, followed by a weekend.”

The school promised to update the parents on the next Monday which fell on January 29, 2024 but the parents never got feedback until yesterday (February 19, 2024) when another message was released indicating it was SST with a problem.

Parents were requested to be patient adding that the results would be gotten soon which is now almost a month. The school has repeatedly regretted the inconveniences that have been caused to the parents and candidates.

“Dear Parent/ Guardian, Warm greetings to you all and thank you for supporting us. *Kindly take note of the following:* *PLE 2023 results* We wish to update you all that we have not yet got our PLE 2023 results. Today 19/02/2024, UNEB has started hearing and clearing schools that they have issues with,” the administration said on Monday.

“For our case, UNEB has an issue with us only in the SST paper. We are following it keenly,  we are hopeful and confident that we shall receive our results. We have been allocated day 7, next week on Tuesday 27/2/2024 to go and be heard. We’re very optimistic that we shall be cleared and subsequently receive the results.”

Meanwhile, the school administration working with parents are trying whatever is possible to ensure that PLE results are released in order to save candidates from unnecessary anxiety or repeating primary seven this year.
