The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has warned the public about people who are disguising as its employees moving in villages claiming to be confirming that every person has a National Identity Card ahead of the May 2024 census exercise.
Chris Mukiza executive director has said that information already circulating on social media indicates that the masqueraders are using fake UBOS headed papers. Mukiza said UBOS team is moving in villages is conducting a listing exercise for the heads of households and geo-referencing households and area boundaries.
UBOS has said that its teams are listing in the cities of Arua, Fort Portal, Gulu, Hoima, Jinja, Lira, Mbale, Masaka, Mbarara, and Soroti. “…soon be in the greater Kampala comprising of Kampa, Wakiso and Mukono districts. Other districts are being visited to mop-up the remaining households that were not covered in our previous listing exercise,” Mukiza said.
To differentiate UBOS genuine team from the quarks, the public has been informed that institution’s staff is accompanied by guides who are Local Council One Chairpersons or an elected known area leader.
“This is, therefore, to advise the general public to be vigilant and report all suspected cases of this nature to the nearest police station. We further wish to warn such individuals involved in manipulating the population to desist, and once indentified, they will be held responsible and handed over to the authorities,” Mukiza said.
