The Kampala Metropolitan South Police, in collaboration with the Flying Squad Unit, successfully intercepted a UAZ 801Y Land Cruiser today, transporting two suspected stolen cows. Acting on a tip, the Flying Squad team was alerted to a suspect transporting livestock for sale to abattoirs in Kyengera and Natete.

In the early hours of the morning at Kutano Nakawuka Road in Rubaga Division , the team, vigilant and prepared, engaged the vehicle. The driver attempted to evade the checkpoint, prompting officers to deflate the vehicle’s tyres. The suspect Mugema Ismah (32), now under police custody, sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical attention at Mulago Hospital.

Upon inspection of the vehicle, two live cows were discovered in the back seat and trunk, securely tied. The ongoing investigation aims to determine the origin of the stolen cattle, with suspicions pointing towards Matuga. Authorities urge anyone with information on stolen cows to come forward to the Natete Police station, where the matter is under thorough investigations.

The incident underscores the persistent issue of cattle theft in various parts of the country. Law enforcement remains dedicated to curbing such crimes, and efforts to apprehend additional suspects involved in this unlawful activity are underway.
