
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda has rejected a request to set up an Idi Amin Institute.
Museveni deemed the request to be wrong and one that should be rejected.
The response was directed to the Minister of Sports and Education,Janet Museveni through a letter dated October 5,2023.
In this letter Museveni revealed that he had been prompted to write to the Minister of Education after seeing a letter from Dr.Alex Kagume of National Council for Higher Education inquiring on a proposed request to set up the institute by Hassan Kaps Fungaroo.

The president that Amin’s government was illegal at the time it was instituted in addition to the many crimes of documented murder he committed.
Some of the killings according to the letter mentioned were Acholi and Lango killings in Mbarara prison , prisoners in Mutukula prison, Ben Kiwanuka and many more .
In addition, Museveni noted that Amin had destroyed Uganda’s economy by expelling Indians.
“Therefore it is not acceptable to licence an Institute to promote or study the work of Idi Amin. It is enough that the forgiving Ugandans forgave the surviving colleagues of Idi Amin. Let that history be forgotten.”
