UPDF Soldier, Unknown Man Murdered in Kabale

Unidentified man and a Uganda People’s Defence Forces – UPDF soldier have murdered in Kabale district.

ASP Elly Mate the Kigezi regional police spokesperson said information was received from the LC1 chairperson Kigongi “A” cell one William Tumuramye, that there was a dead body floating on River Rwabakazi in Rushaki cell.

Mate said at the body that was decomposing was tied in a sack. It was retrieved from the water and later taken to Kabale regional hospital mortuary for postmortem.

“The body is in mid 30s and had several injuries on the head and a deep starb wound on the neck an indication that was killed with a sharp object and dumped in the river,” Mate said.

Police have urged whoever is missing a relative tobvisit the hospital mortuary so that it is identified and taken for burial.

Another incident of murder by stabbing was registered in the same district. This victim was a UPDF soldier, Pte Patrick Byamukama 31, attached to 41st Bn under 3rd division.

Byamukama was a born of Kanyabiyengo village Kinyamari parish Butanda sub county Kabale district.

“It is alleged that yesterday at around 1 pm, Pte Byamukama who was on pass leave was attacked from his home for unknown reasons, stabbed with a sharp object on the stomach and was rushed to Kabale Regional referral hospital where he died on arrival,” Mate said.

ASP Mate said police visited and documented. He added that two suspects have been arrested in connection with Pte Byamukama murder.

The suspects have been identified as
Katagamba Herbert 32, and Bategana Gilvazio 29,.

“Bategana handed himself to Butanda police post for fear of being lynched after his hat and stick were found at the scene,” ASP Mate said.

The angry residents burnt three houses belonging to the suspects. Police was forced to deploy to prevent further destructions.

The area that is now on tension borders the Republic of Rwanda and the incident occurred in a distance of approximately a km from the Uganda Rwanda border..
