Police in Rukungiri district have embarked on hunting for the suspects who cut to death Joseph Bashobeirwe 60, a resident of Kakatenga cell Kihanga Parish Buhunga sub-county. Bashobeirwe was cut to death at around 3 pm on Sunday, according to Maurice Kyomugisha, who heard him screaming for help.
Kyomugisha has said that when she was at her home which is opposite the deceased’s garden, she had him screaming that he was being killed. “My home is located opposite the hill where the deceased had a garden. I heard him making an alarm that he was being murdered. I responded by making an alarm for the rescue of the deceased,” Kyomugisha said.
Kyomugisha and other neighbours went to Bashobeirwe’s rescue but they, unfortunately, found him already cut to death. His killers had already left the scene. “We informed other neighbours and his relatives. We later informed police about this murder,” Kyomugisha said.
Bashobeirwe’s murder scene was visited by the area GISO (Sub-county Internal Security Officer) Stella Kamusiime and who swiftly alerted Buhunga police station even before the locals did.

ASP Elly Mate, the Kigezi regional police spokesperson, said a panga suspected to have been used in the murder was recovered from the scene. “Suspects still at large, anyone who may be having clues that can lead to those who did it, should volunteer it so that perpetrators are brought to book,” ASP Mate said.
Bashobeirwe’s murder came just hours after police in Rubanda had arrested one person suspected to have assaulted James Monday 39 to death. The deceased was a resident of Katasa village Kaara parish Muko sub county Rubanda district.
Monday was attacked on his way home from Nyanamo trading centre. Locals heard him making an alarm for his rescue. The family and neighbours found him naked and in critical condition. Monday was rushed to Rugarama Hospital for treatment where he was declared dead hours later.
Patrick Arinaitwe, the sub-county chairperson alerted the police and OC CID ASP Bernice Aine visited the scene. SP Odulusi, the police surgeon conducted the postmortem and the body was later given to relatives for burial.
“One suspect was arrested who has been having misunderstandings with the deceased over his second wife one Provia Ahimbisibwe Provia. After the death of the deceased Ahimbisibwe reported herself at Nyamuriro mineral police for safe custody,” ASP Mate said.
