Shock engulfed Kabale police station on Sunday morning when a man identified as Denis Arinaitwe, shot to death a female police officer who was also his girlfriend.
The killed female corp has been identified as Police Constable- PC Caroline Komuhangi 23, whose force number was 69786.
Komuhangi was serving under the Field Force Unit – FFU and it’s not yet clear what prompted the two to disagree to the extent of Arinaitwe exterminating a life of a very young police officer. However, rumours point to infidelity as each accused the other of cheating.
ASP Elly Mate, the Kigezi regional police spokesperson, said Komuhangi was residing in the barracks behind Kabale old police station.
“It is alleged that yesterday at around 6pm, the deceased signed for the gun and went for night duty. Early morning of today, she reported back from duty and while she was resting, when Arinaitwe came,” Mate said.

Mate added: “It’s further alleged that, the two picked a quarrel, and as she tried to escape outside running, the said Denis picked a gun, thereby shooting her from the back one bullet and other two on the shoulder, killing her instantly.”
Arinaitwe was restrained by police officers and taken to Kabale hospital for treatment under guard because he also had an injury which is suspected to have been sustained through a scuffle or he wanted to commit suicide by shooting himself through the nose.
Kabale homicide team visited and processed the scene. The possible exhibits were collected under the supervision of detective Assistant Inspector of Police – D/AIP Derrick Mugabe.
“Exhibit of catradges and rifle no. UGPOL. UF 20291999 -14771 with suspected blood stains recovered. The body was retrieved from the scene and conveyed to Kabale regional referral hospital mortuary for postmortem,” Mate said.
