At least 19 lower rank police officers are perhaps smiling ear to ear after they were elevated in ranks.
In exercise of his powers enshrined in sections 11(1), (a) & 13(1) (2), (b) of Police Act, Martin Ochola, the topmost police chief promoted subordinate officers from the ranks Police Constable up to Inspector of Police (IP).
Ochola promoted two police officers to the rank of IP, two to the rank of Assistance Inspector of Police (AIP), one from Seargent (Sgt) to AIP, two from Cpl to Sgt from AIP are two, from CPL to SGT two and 14 from Police Constable to Cpl.
“The promotions of the subordinated officers was done in accordance with the laid down established procedures and in accordance with the Uganda Public Service standing orders,” Ochola said.
Ochola said the key criteria was based on transparency, openness and objectivity to ensure fairness and equity of the process.
“These include among other factors the following; performance, current responsibility, leadership abilities, command abilities, and time spent on rank,” Ochola said.
Ochola in a statement issued by deputy police Spokesperson, ACP Clare Nabakka, further explained that the promoted officers exhibited highest degree of discipline, patriotism and integrity.
Some were promoted because they have spent a long period in the force, the highest level of education, and career courses attended were all a plus for one to be promoted.
The record of service, exemplary performance were also key attributes in the promotions.
