A pistol that was stolen from an Assistant Superintendent of Police – ASP Christian Walusimbi, during a November 2022, road crash has been recovered from a robber.
Denis Joseph Ochan, has been arrested by civilians at Katwe II carpentry shop as he attempted to rob money from a cashier, Swaburah Nakidde, using a pistol.
Nakidde made an alarm that attracted the attention of her colleagues who with the help of the security guard, Ronnie Rwigyema, managed to subdue Ochan.
Luke Owoyesigyire the deputy Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson said the pistol had 12 bullets.
When Ochan was interrogated, he revealed that he had picked the pistol from his friend identified as, Ronald Ocen Akena, who was also arrested by Katwe intelligence officers from his area of abode in Katwe-Kinyoro.
Owoyesigyire said when police officers checked the pistol , they noticed it had all the details of ASP Walusimbi’s pistol.
On the day ASP Walusimbi was involved in a crash, his pistol wasn’t the only item that was stolen from him but also his Tecno Camon 18 valued 700,000 shillings, and his two jackets.
ASP Walusimbi had reported the theft of his pistol, mobile phone and jacket at Kabalagala police station. The two suspects Ochan and Akena have been taken to Katwe police station on charges of aggravated robbery and illegal possession of a firearm.
