The police director of Human Resource Development (HRD) Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Godfrey Golooba, has cautioned police officers against being wasted by alcohol.
AIGP Golooba, who represented the Inspector General of Police Martin Ochola, at the pass out of 111 non commissioned police officers at Ikafe Police Training School in Yumbe district said alcohol has often ruined lives of good police officers thus urging them to live a responsible life.
“Not only training can make you a good police officer. But your discipline, character, attitude, alcohol, malingering and not checking yourself about corruption tendencies can spoil your ability to serve in the forces,” AIGP Golooba said.
The 111 trainees drawn from various parts of the country have completed a one month refresher training. AIGP Golooba urged police officers never to view refresher trainings as a punishment but a value addition to their lives.
Ikafe Police Training School commandant Senior Superintendent of Police -SSP James Okabo, said the trainees arrived when they were weak and had negative attitude towards the training. However, SSP Okabo said the trainees later gained morale and became strong as days passed.
“The trainees were taken through a number of course units that refreshed their knowledge in areas of professionalism, police duties and procedures, disciplinary procedures, information and document security,” SSP Okabo said.
SP Josephine Angucia, the West Nile regional police spokesperson said trainees were also equipped with fresh skills in areas of weapon assembling, weapon management, human rights protection, financial literacy and customer care.
AIGP Golooba awarded Detective Constable -DC Mariam Nyesigye as best trainee in academic, Police Constable -PCSam Iraku Egwer was best in masketry, PC Bosco Ojok was best in discipline while Corporal Samuel Lochoro Lochen emerged best in endurance.
