The Directorate of Crime Intelligence -DCI has arrested five people from Kaliro district on suspicion of being terrorists linked to Allied Democratic Forces-ADF.
Assistant Superintendent of Police – ASP Michael Kasadha, the Busoga North regional police spokesperson, said the suspects were netted in an intelligence led operation to help in investigation of allegations that they are connected to ADF activities.
Security has identified the suspects as Kaamu Andrew, Baligeya Bashir, Waiswa Michael, Namugire sharifu and Mukyala Lydia.
DCI operation was commanded by Detective Asp Nabimanya at Namukooge village, Namugongo sub- county in Kaliro District.
ASP Kasadha said the suspects have since been transferred to DCI headquarters in Kampala, where a general enquiry file was originated in relation to the terrorism allegations.
“On thorough search which was conducted in the house of Baligeya Bashir and Nangobi, exhibits of evidential value were recovered,” ASP Kasadha said.
Security has called upon the members of the public to remain vigilant and to report suspicious individuals as since there could be attempts to exploit the New Year’s end excitement to wreak havoc.
On Christmas day, security raided Nyendo – Mukungwe division in Masaka City where a one Katende alias Mao was arrested with a PK Machine gun and seven Sub-Machine Guns – SMGs.
President Yoweri Museveni a fortnight ago said attacks on police stations in which police officers have been killed were conducted by ADF remnants.
