At least one person was shot and injured while another was arrested by night patrol police at a robbery roadblock.
Two police officers who were conducting night patrol using a motorcycle landed on a group that had staged an illegal roadblock at Kavule valley, on Semuto- Matugga road at around 3 am.
Police have said that the group that was using a tricycle panicked and attempted to flee but they were pursued.
One police officer upon realizing that the tricycle was moving faster and branching off the main road decided to discharge a bullet that injured Lazarus Kibuka who has since been taken to Mulago hospital for treatment.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, said the tricycle with registration number UEV 932Q was Impounded alongside Jimmy Kasozi who was arrested without being shot.
However, three other thugs were lucky enough and they fled. Onyango said they are using the two suspects in their hands to trace for those who escaped.
Kibuka, Kasozi and their other colleagues had erected the roadblock using a huge stone as well as a four seater chair. The group was targeting Merrymakers returning from Christmas celebrations.
Little did the thugs know that president Yoweri Museveni had directed the Inspector General of Police, Martin Ochola, to reinstate checkpoints and intensity night patrol during Christmas days.
Museveni while reinstating checkpoints he had removed barely two months earlier said criminals were terrorizing people without any fears.
