The road crash registered at Kayabwe, Masaka road, has today killed five people. The incident occured at Kibukuta Swamp, Kayabwe town council.
Traffic police has said the crash involved vehicles Toyota Hiace UBM 489B and Mercedes Benz UAM 445B all heading to Kampala side.
Faridah Nampiima, the traffic police spokesperson, said five people died on spot but their identities were yet to be established. These are; three female adults and two male adults who were all passengers in the Toyota Hiace.
“Also five unknown victims were rushed to Nkozi Hospital and they were all occupants in the Benz.The suspected cause of accident is speeding by both vehicles,” ASP Nampiima said.
It is said the Mercedes Benz was overtaking in a terrible speed, lost control and thus knocked a Toyota Hiace which went off road and eventually overturned. The Benz also overturned but non of it’s occupants had died at the time of filing this story.
“We wish to remind all road users to be vigilant and observe maximum road discipline,” Nampiima said. The December especially during the festive week is known for claiming lives in dozens. Police attribute the huge road crash deaths in December to reckless driving, drunk- drug driving, speeding and vehicles in dangerous mechanic condition.
