Abgart Katumba, a six-year-old girl, was today killed by the neighbour’s wall of the building under construction. The death of the young girl was brought to police attention by the father, Daniel Katumba, who accuses his neighbour, Amidu Tata, of not heeding to their warnings that his building wall was weak and posed a risk to locals.

Daniel Katumba and Amidu Tata are residents of Kabowa zone, Kabowa parish, Lubaga division, in Kampala. In a statement recorded by police, Katumba alleges that Tata has a building under construction but part of the wall had some cracks and it was being supported by poles not to collapse.

“Today my daughter passed around the weak wall and it collapsed on her. She was badly injured and we tried to rush her to Rubaga Hospital but she died on the way,” Katumba told police.

Police Spokesperson for Kampala, Patrick Onyango, said they have already recorded a statement from the deceased’s parents and also visited the scene. “They (detectives) visited and documented the crime scene. We are yet to establish the circumstances under which the wall collapsed and killed the deceased.”

Amidu Tatat is like to be charged with rush and negligence that resulted into the death of a young girl. A number of people have been in Kampala by building under construction. These incidents have occurred in areas of Kitebi, Kisenyi, Kansanga, Makerere, Nakasero, and Mengo. Some buildings like where UK Mall sits in Kansanga killed seven people three years where it was being constructed.
