UPDF Soldier Shoots, Kills Parent at Kawanda Secondary school

There was a shocking incident today morning at Kawanda secondary school where a Uganda People’s Defence Forces – UPDF soldiers shot and killed another parent after a scuffle at the gate.

It said Ssali Abdul who was cruising a UPDF vehicle squeezed, Ronald Waligo, who was riding a Bajaj Boxer UEG 721C at the school gate and this prompted a verbal exchange between the two.

The scuffle between Ssali and Waligo, according to Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, attracted other Bodaboda riders but the former warned that he was going to shoot them if they stayed in his vicinity.

Owoyesigyire said other Bodaboda riders feared and decided to leave when Ssali threatened to shoot them dead. However, Waligo insisted that Ssali needed to respect him and apologize for squeezing him against the wall.

Police said Ssali went back to his vehicle, pulled out a pistol and shot at Waligo thus killing him on the spot.

Ssali sped off after killing Waligo but police is using Closed Circuit Television – CCTV cameras to trace for his movement.

Owoyesigyire said the preliminary investigations indicate that Ssali reached the school gate and found another vehicle coming from the opposite direction. This forced him to push the vehicle towards the wall and in the process he squeezed Waligo something that resulted into the scuffle.
