An Assistant Superintendent of Police -ASP Micheal Bulenzibuto and Sergeant -SGT Charles Ojanga are part of the eight suspects arrested over the theft of 75 million shillings from a Victoria sugar company in Kamuli district.
Busoga Norther regional police spokesperson, ASP Micheal Kasadha, identified the six others detained alongside the two police officers as Muwanga Geofrey, Kidami Henry, Mukabya Musa, Isabirye Juma, Lwalanda Sharif, and Koolya Bumali.
ASP Kasadha said Mukaabya was on Wednesday afternoon sent by the company cashier to Kiyunga to collect the money. However, Corporal Obbo, the Officer Incharge of Kiyunga Police station was informed that Mukaabya had been around.
Cpl Obbo rushed to the scene, found Mukabya handcuffed and dumped alongside the road. But Mukaabya’s stage-managed robbery was blown out by the eye witness who alerted police that he had seen him with someone carrying an army bag entering a bar in Kisozi.
ASP Kasadha explained that after learning about this information, Cpl Obbo, accompanied by the Local Council Three Chairman David Magala Magala David and other people stormed Lemnk bar where they found ASP Bulenzibuto carrying the bag which Mukaabya claimed had been robbed from him.
“However, during the arrest, the LCIII chairman Magala allegedly took the bag of money first to his place of abode and later went back to the centre, shared the money with some of the people under custody, before taking it to Kiyunga police post,” ASP Kasadha said.
ASP Kasadha added that the scene of the crime was visited by a team of detectives led by the District CID officer of Kamuli. When a search was conducted, cash amounting to UGX32M was recovered.
