06 Teachers Arrested Over Getting Gov’t Salary with Forged Academic Papers

Six teachers are in police coolers after being arrested on allegations of drawing government salary using forged academic papers. The accused are teachers working in Kanungu district but coming from various parts of the country.

It is alleged that when the government advertised jobs for qualified teachers, the six used forged academic papers to acquire them but their forgeries were detected by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) who ordered for their arrest.

Assistant Superintendent of Police – ASP Elly Mate, the Kigezi regional police spokesperson, said police booked the suspects on General Enquiry File (GEF 07/2022).

“It is believed that early this year, ministry of public service discovered that some of these teachers had accessed government payroll illegally and therefore decided to cut them off. Some of these teachers went to CAOs office to follow up on their salary issues. Police was contacted to arrest them,” ASP Mate said.

Police have identified the arrested teachers as Grace Zawedde 44, who is an assistant instructor at Nyakatare technical institute in the department of agriculture and hails from Kayunga district.

Alfred Mwesige 53, a teacher at Kambugu senior secondary school and hails from Kanungu district. Felix Okori 39, an assistant instructor at Nyakatare technical institute in the department of building and construction and hails from Lira district.

Samson Kiseka 30, at a teacher Kihihi High School from Kanungu. Fred Ssenkayi, an instructor at Nyakatare technical institute in the department of agriculture and hails from Wakiso district.

The sixth arrested teacher is Happiness Byaruhanga 41, a Bursar at Nyamirama Seed School and hails from Rukungiri district.

“All these teachers are currently being held at Kanungu police station. Most of them have confessed to have got government jobs using fake academic documents and have been in the service for over 10 years,” ASP Mate said.
