The Inspector General of Police, Martin Ochola, has condemned the shooting and killing of the Officer in Charge of criminal investigations at Busiika Police Station, Luweero district on Monday evening.
Ochola, in a message assigned on his behalf by Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, identified the deceased CID boss as Inspector of Police -IP Alex Wagaluka. The assailants raided the police station at 7:30 pm and shot IP Wagaluka alongside his junior Police Constable Moses Ongol.
“The facts gathered indicate, that the assailants who were about 7, emerged from 3 different sides, two in front and one from behind, and were armed with a pistol and guns. During the attack, the assailants injured two other police officers, who included; PC Ochom Adrian and PC Odama Stephen, who remains in critical condition,” Enanga’s statement reads in part.
Police said the injured police officers have been rushed to Bombo Military General Hospital for further medical treatment. Police added that the attackers also burnt several case files and attempted to burn the station. If it wasn’t for the involvement of the community members, the entire police station would now be reduced to ashes.
Enanga explained that community members successfully put off the fire and they have been extolled for the good gesture. “The lGP has extended his deepest condolences to the family, friends, relatives, and workmates of the late D/IP Wagaluka Alex and PC Ongol Moses. He further wished the two injured officers, a quick recovery,” Enanga added.
Busiika incident comes hours after Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence and Crime Intelligence arraigned in court martial Frank David Ssemwogerere alias Col Nduggwa the alleged commander of Uganda Coalition Forces for Change- UCFC a rebel outfit linked to similary attacks in Kiboga, Nakaseke, Luweero, Mityana and Wakiso.
At least 10 policers, private security guards, and soldiers have been killed in attacks linked to UCFC commanded by Col Nduggwa. Reports indicate that Nduggwa first fled to South Africa but sneaked back into the country. He again fled clandestinely but he was a month ago picked from Nairobi, Kenya.
