
Sylvia Nakyeyune, an administrator attached to Wakiso district, has lost 90 million Shillings at a popular pork joint in Nansana Municipality. Nakyeyune said she left her money in the bag that was inside her vehicle a Toyota Premio UAX 951A and entered QC Restaurant and Bar Grill.
“When I was entering the pork joint, I told the Askari to protect my vehicle for a few minutes because I was not going to delay there. But when I reached inside, I found my friends and we sat down for a conversation and we also ate some pork together,” Nakyeyune said while recording her statement.
Nakyeyune said when she returned to her car, she did not bother checking whether her money was intact. She drove to her home area in Ndeje –Lubugumu without any suspicion. However, she received a shock of her evening after she stopped at a Centi-Agent to deposit some money.
“I checked for the bag to deposit money but it was missing. I quickly drove back to Nansana. I decided to first open a case at Nansana police station in order to get police officers to accompany me back to the restaurant,” Nakyeyune said.
Nakyeyune’s case was recorded under reference 114/08/09/2022 by a one Sgt Matsiko who was at the reception desk. Sgt Matsiko noticed that it was going to be a swift operation and he alert the Division Police Commander Joseph Kamukama who was out of the station.
Kamukama ordered Sgt Matsiko to quickly access the pork joint in company of other police officers. But when Sgt Matsiko reached the scene, some people including the bouncers obstructed him as other people fled using the back door.
“I noticed that some people were running away using the behind door. This was we had been obstructed by the Askari. We fired two bullets in the air to scare those who were evading arrest but no one was injured,” Sgt Matsiko said in his report.
At the end of the operation to recover Nakyeyune’s 90 million shillings, five suspects had been apprehended for interrogation. The suspects whose names are in the two cases now registered at Nansana police station include Ibrahim Sserwadda, Await Mugenyi, Emmanuel Kiss, Ibrahim Sonko and Sulaiman Fik.
While at Nansana police custody, Sonko who is the manager of QC pork joint, said he was not informed that Nakyeyune had left money in his car. Nevertheless, Sonko acknowledged that the victim is one of their esteemed customers.
By press time, Nansana police was still interrogating the suspects with hope that they would reveal who varnished with Nakyeyune’s money. As part of the investigations, detectives asked Nakyeyune to reveal the source of the lost money and she responded that it was a proceed of sold land.
Patrick Onyango the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson said he had been informed that some suspects had been arrested over Nakyeyune’s stolen money. The two cases of theft of cash and obstruction are being investigated under references 116/08/09/2022 and 117/08/09/2022 respectively.
