Fake Policeman Arrested During Night Operations

Deputy KMP police spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire

Sulaiman Mukada is behind bars at Old Kampala Police Station after he was nabbed in night police operation disguising as an Assistant Inspector of Police -AIP. Trouble for Mukada started when he was stopped Abdul Bukenya, a Boda-boda rider at midnight in Namungoona and started questioning him.

Mukada pulled out his fake police warrant card which showed he was AIP Sulaiman Byaruhanga. The night generated cop immediately removed the ignition key as Bukenya pleaded for mercy.

But as fate would have it, police patrol vehicle commanded by Namungoona Officer Incharge abruptly arrived at the scene something that force Mukada to abandon his fake police warrant card and immediately took off.

Assistant Superintendent of Police -ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, who is also the deputy Kampala police spokesperson, said the police officers gave a chase to Mukada until he was arrested.

Police have since established that Mukada was being ridden on another motorcycle by suspected accomplice a one Aine. The motorcycle which Mukada police suspect wanted to steal from Bukenya has registration number UFL 990Q.

“It is alleged that on the fateful night while Mukada was on a motorcycle being ridden by another man only identified as Aine, he stopped an oncoming motorcycle, pulled out a Fake Police Warrant card reading D/AIP Byaruhanga Sulaiman to prove to the rider that he was a Police officer and begun questioning him why he was riding very fast,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.

Police have preferred charges of impersonating a Police officer and that of theft of a Motorcycle on the suspect. Police intend to arraign Mukada in court by close of business tomorrow. Bukenya and Aine have since recorded statements that will be vital in Mukada’s prosecution.

This is not the first-time men have been arrested impersonating as police officers in Kampala. In 2020, a man was arrested dress in Khaki uniform at Kibuye road junction stopping Boda-boda riders riding past curfew hours.
