Cases of murder by cutting are seemingly on rise in greater Kigezi region according to the latest incidents. In the last three weeks, at least six people have been cut to death in Kigezi region in what is described as property and domestic brawl.
Levi Nuwagaba was found cut to death outside Agro Input shop in Kisoro district. Nuwagaba’s death according to Inspector of Police –IP Elly Mate, was reported by his father William Kwitegetse.
Kwitegetse and his deceased son Nuwagaba were residents of Butengo village, Nyanamo town council. Aged 24, Nuwagaba was working for one Friday Dickson at Butengo village. The scene of crime according to IP Mate was visited by detective ASP Elias Bairuka Elias accompanied by scene of crime officers and canine unit.
Days earlier, Promise Nyirabwiza, was cut to death. This incident was notified to police by Nsabimana Mathew 67, a resident of Mwaro village, Nyirakinama sub-county, in Kisoro district. The victim was aged 20 and was a daughter to Augustine Ndimubanza.
Detective Nyirabwiza scene and retrieved some exhibits that included two pairs of open shoes one pair suspected to be for a female and another for a male, a red and white jacket. The postmortem indicated that the body had taken about 3 days because was in a decomposing state.
A Rwandan national was also found cut to death in Kabale district. In all the above incidents, police were yet to arrest potential suspects. Five people were killed in domestic fights using machetes and other blunt objects in August still in Kigezi region.
