Six women have been arrested on accusation of selling unhealthy food. The suspects were arrested by Kabale police selling adulterated food.
Kigezi Police Spokesperson, Elly Mate, named the women as Angela Kyalimpa, Mary Tushabe, Doris Ndyamuhika, Constance Kukundakwe, Clare Amutuhire and Tumwebaze. The group were all residents of Kabale Municipality.
Mate explained that the suspects had mixed food with something else that changes it from its original state to different one of poor quality that is dangerous for human consumption. Police said the women were arrested from Kabale Central Market already selling small pieces of fake fried fish.
“They get fish bones, add cassava flour of wheat flour on top. This makes fish look like dried or fried yet it is not. Each piece is sold at 500 shillings. When it is prepared, it becomes more like porridge,” Mate said.
Mate said the operation will continue to get all those involved in the racket so that they are charged. Police is holding the suspects on file number Kabale SD 42/25/02/2021.
