IGP Promotes 5 Time Gold Medalist Cheptegei to ASP

Inspector General of Police, Martin Ochola, has promoted five-time gold medalist Joshua Cheptegei to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police.

Among the World records Cheptegei holds include 5000m World record holder, a double Common Wealth Gold Medalist, and is also the reigning World Cross Country and World 10,000m Champion.

Cheptegei was in 2018 promoted from Police Constable to Inspector of Police after he won a gold medal at common wealth games. Cheptegei’s promotion was announced by Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, on Monday while addressing the media on national security status.

Enanga said the decision to promote Cheptegei was unanimously passed by police’s Police Advisory Committee –PAC on Wednesday last week. Now ASP, Cheptegei has recently broken four (4) World Records in long distance running competitions.

Ochola, in addition has tasked the director of Logistics and Engineering, Richard Edyegu, to allocate a Double Cabin Pick-up and a Coaster Mini-bus to the Police Athletics team to support their training in Kapchorwa in fulfillment of his earlier pledge.

Enanga said the force also has plans to rename a facility at the Police training centre in Kapchorwa and at the Police Training School at Kabalye, Masindi in honour of his achievement.
