Joel Ssenyonyi, the secretary for information and spokesperson for National Unity Platform –NUP led by Kyadondo East MP and Presidential hopeful, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, has been given party card to run for Nakawa West constituency.
Ssenyonyi was competing with three-time failure and former Democratic Party spokesperson, Kenneth Paul Kakande, but the vetting committee of NUP reportedly found their spokesperson a better candidate.
Nakawa West is a new constituency split from Nakawa Division. The reigning Nakawa Mayor, Ronald Balimwezo, was given NUP ticket to run for Nakawa East constituency where he will be tussling Forum for Democratic –FDC incumbent Michael Kabaziguruka and National Resistance Movement- NRM candidate Fred Ruhindi.
Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, NUP secretary for mobilization and Bobi Wine’s elder brother, has been awarded party ticket to stand for Kampala Central MP seat which is currently obtained by independent and vocal MP Muhammad Nsereko.
However, Bobi Wine’s other elder brother, Eddie Yawe, did not pass the test to secure NUP ticket for Kira Municipality which is currently held by FDC’s vocal MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda.
However, there have been disappointments and complaints about criteria used by NUP’s vetting committee to give part tickets to some individuals. People have argued and wondered how NUP sidelined Arthur Mugabi but gave Njeru Municipality ticket to Jimmy Lwanga.
Renowned and celebrated radio presenter alias comedian Patricko Mujuuka, was dumped for Nakifuma county but ticket given to Fred Ssimbwa. In Bobi Wine’s own constituency, Tonny Ssempebwa and Khalid Ssimbwa were abandoned but NUP’s committee gave the ticket to Muwada Nkunyingi, who stood against him in 2017.
