Hope for people operating gyms, casinos and bars to resume business has faded as President Yoweri Museveni has ordered them to remain closed.
Museveni while making his 20th Covdi19 address this evening said all indoor sports activities including gyms should remain closed. The head of State went ahead of explain why of the cited business should remain closed.
“Indoor sports activities, including gyms, remain closed. Why? It is because the virus spreads more in enclosed spaces. Casinos, gaming Centres and cinemas remain closed. Why? It is because those activities are in enclosed spaces and are not compatible with social distancing,” Museveni said.
Museveni’s declaration on bars, gyms and casinos to remain under lock and key was a huge blow to proprietors who have been addressing media explaining that they were ready to meet the Standard Operating Procedures.
“Bars shall remain closed. Why? It is because bars, apart from many of them being in enclosed spaces, which phenomenon favours the rapid spread of the virus, are not known for sobriety and lack of sobriety is not compatible with health safety through the observance of the health SOPs,” Museveni explained.
Nevertheless, open air activities of sports have been re-open provided there are no spectators and the players are tested for Covid-19, 72 hours before. This test, according to Museveni, will expire in 14 days. Thus sportsmen will have to repeat the test.
Museveni added that sportsmen and women should remember that masks should not be worn, when you are engaged in strenuous exercises. With tournaments, Museveni added that teams should be quarantined for the whole season of the competition.
